American Fine Art

John Peterson

John Peterson, oil painter

John Peterson’s talent as an artist does not come from formal training or art degrees, but from a God-given gift that has been apparent since early childhood.  “I can’t really take the credit for my ability”, says John, “it is a gift from God and it is my responsibility to develop my talent and use it to give Him the glory.”

Raised in southwestern Wisconsin, close to the Mississippi River, John spent many hours traversing the marshlands and countryside while hunting and fishing.  His interest turned towards wildlife and sporting art in his early years, becoming involved with Ducks Unlimited with donations of his work to local fund raisers.  In 1980 John placed 2nd in the Wisconsin duck stamp competition.  In those days his vocation as a construction worker took him on the road and the art career was put on hold for several years.  Finally, he took the plunge into full-time art about 5 years ago and now participates in several art shows across the western United States.  He most recently was inducted into the Western Artists of America.

John’s interest in the historical west has drawn him to focus his efforts on that subject matter.  His inspiration comes from a passion to recreate the excitement and romance of the historical west.  His western scenes are infused with action and drama, portraying the rugged independence of those that occupied and explored our American west.  John still enjoys creating wildlife themes as well.

John now lives in northeastern Washington with his wife Terri, surrounded by wilderness and mountain vistas that provide great inspiration.
